The release of The First Descendant is upon us, and if you want to know how to unlock all the characters in the game, we’ve got you covered. The First Descendant currently has fourteen characters that players can unlock and play in the game. It will undoubtedly have more characters added in the future, so this number is bound to change.Â
As things stand now, players will unlock one character during the tutorial missions. You get to choose between Ajax, Lepic, and Viessa. However, to get other heroes, players will have to do some work. So let’s find out what you will have to do to unlock characters in The First Descendant.  Â
How to Unlock Characters in The First Descendant?
To unlock new Descendants in the game, players must first visit a Magister Anais in the hub region, Albion. Interacting with the Magister grants access to the Research Institute, which can be used to research Descendants, weapons, and materials.Â
Every Descendant requires their own unique Code, Spiral Catalyst, Enhanced Cells, and Sabilizer. These are all advanced materials that you need to craft before Descendants can be researched. After crafting the needed materials, players can visit Magister Anais and use the Research Institute to start the research on a character they want to unlock. One thing to keep in mind is that the research time for every Descendant takes about 12 hours. However, this can be sped up using in-game currencies.       Â
How to Get the Materials Needed to Unlock Descendants?
As mentioned before, to unlock more playable characters in the game, players need to collect items and craft specific advanced materials. Selecting a Descendant in the Research Institute will display the needed materials that are required to start their research.Â
Moreover, by hovering over research materials on the right part of the screen, players can use the Go to Research option to see the recipe for each item individually. Hovering over every item in research materials, players can use the acquisition option to see where they will have to go to farm specific items.
Three out of the four components needed to unlock every Descendant can be created using the above-mentioned method. However, the last component needed is a Blueprint, and they are acquired a bit differently.   Â
How to Acquire and Unlock Blueprints in The First Descendant?Â
Blueprints fall into the Amorphous Materials category and are acquired after completing certain Special Operation missions. These missions become available after all other missions are completed in a region and will reward players with a container of Amorphous Materials that need to be opened to get rewards. To open the Amorphous Materials box, players have to defeat the Colossus linked to each box.
