Probably for the first time ever, Helldivers are taking over the decision-making instead of listening to their Super Earth command. With all the talks about tactics, it would seem that the Helldivers are finally taking advantage of their free will. A lot of Helldivers 2 players chose to disobey the current Major Order and fight with the bots, instead of on the bug front. What exactly is going on?
The New Major Order Fails to Get Helldivers Away From the Bots
The most recent Major Order was issued on June 26. It sent thousands of Helldivers to their deaths on the bot front. Per the MO, the players were given 7 days to liberate five planets from the Terminid infestation. The planets are Erson Sands, Bore Rock, Pandion XXIV, Phact Bay, and Acamar IV.
The unusual thing is that one planet on the Automaton front has seen a lot of activity. Vandalion IV is currently a hotspot for all the players who chose tactics over orders. Thunderhammer29 said: “Since I started playing in February, this is the first MO I don’t give a f*** about. Get to Vandalon IV. Vandalon IV is of great strategic importance. I will liberate it before moving to the bug front”.
The-Joshinator explained: “It’s got all the supply lines, and now has a slow regen rate, I mean…. Hello? This is our chance”. Another player, det_laf, added: “This snow beauty is IMHO a top planet/place to fight the scrap metal…lots of covers, lot of choke points, and with proper perks the traverse through snow is a non-existent issue”.
SnooLemons8903 offered some advice on how to get more players to play on Vandalon IV. They said: “Host campaigns on planets you want to attack. Players who quick-play regions will be pulled to the planet you’re on. More hosts means more players will start populating the planet. One idea would be to begin one mission with a team and leave once landed. And then, repeat the process. I don’t favor this option but it’s something you can do”.
Major Order Progress and Expectations
For our Helldivers who follow the beacon of Super Earth, don’t worry. The Major Order is progressing just fine. In the first 24 hours of the MO, the players managed to liberate two whole planets. At the point of writing this article, the players have a little more than 6 days to liberate Erson Sands, Pandion XXIV, and Phact Bay. That is highly achievable.
MechaRon explained: “I do it to further the story really. I like all the flavor text in the announcements and seeing new ones is fun. It’s cool to see the battle lines move as MOs are won or lost. The medals are just a small bonus that you don’t need after you finish your Warbonds.”
Many players insisted that we should take advantage of the opportunity because the MO seemed just like a stand-in for something big that might happen soon. One player, ventdeiji, noticed: “It definitely feels like we’re at the edge of the next story beat but they aren’t ready to send it out yet”.
Of course, Helldivers 2 players will soon learn if there are any repercussions when they disobey a Major Order to fight their own battle with the bots. Or, maybe they won’t. Another possibility is that it’s just the season of summer breaks and Arrowhead is low on active employees. Whatever the reason behind these long monotonous MOs is, we think something big is coming, maybe the Illuminate or some new enemies. We can’t wait to find out, until then, you’ll find us on the bot front.
